Family of Yale and Jean Nelson (center). Clockwise around Jean are her husband, Yale Nelson; daughter Marilyn "Lyn" Nelson, Robert Nelson, Steven Nelson and Thomas Nelson.

Yale Roy Nelson, son of Arthur William Nelson (1883 - 1955) and Josephine (Cavett) Nelson (1882 - 1975), was born in Edgar, Nebraska on October 10, 1918.

Jean Helen Nutter, daughter of John and Jenny (Reinholdson) Nutter, was born on the family farm located between Gibbon and Shelton, Nebraska, on February 14, 1915. She graduated from Gibbon High School in 1932, and from Hastings College in 1939 with a degree in sociology. She worked for Nebraska Social Services from 1939 to 1942.

Roy married Jean on August 31, 1942, in Denver, Colorado, and they continued to live in Colorado.

Jean was very actively interested in her family history and geneology, and contributed immensely to this family web site via the photos and information she provided to Betty Nims, daughter of Beatrice (Nutter) Hogg. She was an active member of the Historical Society of Buffalo County, Nebraska, and was a member of the United Church of Broomfield.

Yale and Jean had four children:

Robert Yale NelsonBorn in 1945. Robert married Diane Jean Garrett in 1969. Robert and Diane were eventually divorced, and Robert remarried 3 times: to Barbara Jean McEvoy in 1975, to Sheila Maureen Hampson in 1982, and to Mary Therese Montoya in 1986.
Steven Arthur Nelson Born in 1947. Steven married Marlynn Louise Cimino in 1973.
Thomas Cavett Nelson Born in 1952. Thomas married Cheryl Ann Kirsch in 1979.
Marilyn Jean Nelson Born in 1955. Marilyn married John Heins in 1992.

Jean died while at the Avista Hospital in Louisville, Colorado and March 30, 2003, at the age of 88, the last of her siblings to pass away. Her obituary was published in the Kearney Hub on April 1, 2003. Yale died May 17, 2014 in Boulder, Colorado and was buried in the Riverside Cemetary, in Gibbon, NB. You can access his obituary here, as long as it is available. I've included the text from it on a separate webpage.
