Buell Eugene Nims, son of Lee and Ethel Nims, was born in Sumas, Washington on July 9, 1920. After graduating from local grade and high schools he attended Western Wash. College. He completed pilot training and was commissioned in the Army Air Corps. During most of the war, Buell was in the Air Transport Command, ferrying combat aircraft to all parts of the world. He flew the first P-38 across the South Atlantic route from South America to Africa.
Buell married Betty Mae Carmichael April 5, 1942 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, LA. Betty was born November 3, 1923 in Brunswick, Georgia.
After the war, Buell built a motel near Shreveport which he owned and operated, and began working full time in the building trade. He continued to be a builder of commercial and residential buildings, and owned and operated his own business.
Buell was very active with the First Presbyterian Church and served in management positions much of his life. Buell and Betty were living in Shreveport in 2006.
Buell and Betty had the following children:
| Leon Hopkins Nims | Born in Shreveport, Louisiana 1944. Leon was an attorney in Texas in 1968, and later served as an officer in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam in 1970. He lives in Shreveport, LA. Leon did not marry. |
| Buell Eugene "Gene" Nims Jr. | Born June 31, 1947. Gene married Deborah Clishman on November 13 1982. They have one son, Brian Eugene Nims. Gene owns his own commercial construction business and they live in Shreveport, LA. |
| Brenda Elizabeth Nims | Born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1965. She married Robert Albert Ajluni May 27, 1989 in Shreveport, LA. Robert was born October 31, 1962. Brenda and Robert served in the mission field in Central and South America in 1995-96. Brenda is a registered nurse. Robert and Brenda have two children, son Cole and daughter Quitan. |
